PDFzone.com has a quick tip on how to straighten out a crooked PDF. It's a question that has been raised a number of times by our readers.
De-skew is a feature built into Acrobat 6.0 Professional. Use the "PDF Optimizer" (from the menu bar, select 'Advanced,' then select PDF Optimizer from the drop down menu ). Select the "Adaptive Compression" option (check box near the bottom under the images tab). This will automatically de-skew, de-spec, reduce file size, etc. for PDF files. PDF Optimizer is an ideal tool for use on scanned images to improve the image and reduce the file size. For enhanced batch processing of PDF files using the PDF Optimizer in Acrobat 6.0 Professional, look at PDF-Batch-Optimizer. --Steve Harris
I didn't have a crooked PDF right at hand to test, but it did reduce the size of a 10-page scanned PDF from 350 KB to about 85 KB (!?).
PDF Optimizer has some other interesting features -- like getting rid of those pesky comments and metadata. I'll do another post on that subject soon.
