We've written before about various software programs that create PDFs. Most of them are cheaper than Adobe Acrobat (currently a $299 program), but they usually work fine if all you want to do is create PDFs. (Mac computers create PDFs natively). So why wouldn't you want to use one of these cheap alternatives to create PDFs? Rick Borstein, a very knowledgeable Adobe rep who has a blog called Acrobat for Legal Professionals (which I highly recommend), has a great explanation.
One really good alternative is novaPDF. It's also discounted today at Bits du Jour. At 40% off the regular price, it's a particularly good deal. The discount is available today (Monday) only, so get it quick if you want it.

Cute pdf, which I have used for years, is free. It installs as a printer, so it is available from any program. I have never had a problem with it producing error free pdfs, every time, and you cannot beat the price. They have an upgraded version with more features you can pay for. www.cutepdf.com
