Why become paperless?

Interesting article on the topic of going paperless [click here]. In addition to the, by now obvious, economic and efficiency benefits, there is the environmental benefit:

"There is a clear environmental need for paperless offices. The paper industry is one of the world’s major polluting industries and one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gases with over 900 million trees cut done annually. The EPA reports that paper is the number-one material thrown away, comprising 40% of our waste stream."

Well said. And lawyers are some of the worst offenders in terms of paper use. If only people didn't insist on having paper copies of everything....

I use Yep (from Ironic software), which costs $34 (free for 30 days). It is easier and faster for scanning into than Acrobat, and it's a great utility for organizing, re-naming and moving around PDFs. Plus, it functions as my holding area (or in-box) for scanned items. That way I can scan a bunch of stuff at once and then go back and rename, and file. Totally worth the $34.

We have tried Yep for few weeks and it is OK as document management software at our office. The current price of $39 is also acceptable so it seems Yep will be our final decision for DMS.
